Pôlénergie: Next Generation

Together with local and regional authorities, selected industrial sites and businesses based in Hauts-de-Francee pilot the Next Generation Business Model, the related business case, and to experiment with the decision-making tool. The pilot results in continuous adjustment and improvement of the model. Additionally, the pilot strengthens the interest of participating sites and businesses in their on-site energy transition.

Following an open webinaire on PPA potential in Hauts-de-France, and together with local and regional authorities, Pôlénergie developed a Next Generation Business Model and Business Case for the selected industrial site Marcq-en-Barouel and the business based there Lesaffre. Pôlénergie provided a decision-making tool based on the pricing, strengths and weaknesses of three variants for (renewable) electricity.

Pôlénergie developed a Next Generation Renewable Energy Business Model based on a dual strategy: combining on-site solar production with off-site Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). PPAs are promoted as a way to secure part of a company’s electricity supply at a stable, long-term price, offering traceability and protection against market volatility. Working with Lesaffre, the world’s largest yeast producer, Pôlénergie and GRITH helped implement this model at the company’s site in Marcq-en-Baroeul. Lesaffre now sources around 10% of its annual electricity consumption through locally generated solar power. This change in approach increases price stability and fits in a broader energy procurement strategy.
