Green Supply Chain attended and was present at the Connecing Europe Days in Brussels.
The event was organised together with the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the EU and participants’ backgrounds span from Ministers, politicians, financial institutions, industry, transport, to stakeholders from the European Commission and their connected agencies. It is ‘the’ annual place to discuss concrete measures and exchange good practices developed and piloted in European projects.
During the event, the launch of the nine new ‘European Transport Corridors’ of the trans-European transport network (TEN-T), which also extend to neighbouring third countries has taken place.
Further, the resilience of the European transport network to the changing climate, by highlighting the devastating impacts of climate change on infrastructure was a topic during the four-day event with more than 3,000 participants. Special attention was also given to the rising number of ‘green corridors’. Their requirements, and the ‘customers desire to have more and more sustainable transport and products’, ensure that technologies, alternative fuels, and other greening of transport technologies are further developed and used by the market. With the limitation of space in ports and also the question of financing infrastructure, the topic of considerating utilising fixed or floating strategic infrastructure in ports was mentioned as well during the meeting.
Green Supply Chains provides synergies on green fuel- and electrification strategies from (inland) ports and greening strategies from regions affected by a ports’ hinternald freight transport.
Looking at (inland) port solutions for North Sea Region ports such as: a non-standardised mobile on-shore power supply solution, an innovative e-power supply solution, and road maps for the implementation of shore side electricity solutions.
Piloting and validating a functional multi-user approach in providing alternative fuels in an (inland) port, supporting electrification strategies and covering regional logistics’ needs.
Develops an evidence-based strategy for stakeholder involvement and -management to lift synergies between (inland) port electrification strategies and regional logistics needs.
Finally the market uptake of greening strategies is supported by digital tools supporting the electrification strategies in port environments through booking opportunities and visualisation of environmental performance of green supply chains.
By that, the project supports reduction of emissions in transport and counteracting climate change. The event provided an excellent possibility to exchange with experts on latest developments, trends and potential future uptake of measures to reach zero-emission ports.
The future of funding and financing opportunities for transport infrastructure projects was highlighted during the event too.

Finally, the Scandria Alliance kindly offered the Green Supply Chains project the opportunity to exhibit at its stand in “The Square”, Brussels and Port of Hamburg Marketing was also invited to their evening side-event ‘Moving Europe to the next decade: Europe’s transport network in times of economic uncertainty’.The event was well-visited and the panel discussion and networking event offered interesting insights and possibilities to exchange experiences and ideas.
