The city of Waalwijk has developed a sustainability vision and implementation programme, which strives for climate-neutrality in 2043, the smart mobility programme Smart Move Waalwijk, which includes the proposition of Smart Port Waalwijk, a completely sustainable new inland port.

At his arrival, the self-proclaimed shoe-addicted Minister switched his Italian shoes for tailored terrain boots from the local Shoe Museum. Together with Waalwijk’s Mayor and Alderman, they climbed the former waste dump overlooking the new port area and renewable energy site. Surrounded by 15,000 solar panels and 3 windmills, Smart Port Project Manager Harald Wouters, explained the strategic aims and challenges in developing a zero emission inland port.

Within the Green Supply Chains project Waalwijk aims to lift synergies between inland port electrification strategy and its regional hinterland.
