Tønsberg municipality and Vestfold County has committed to reducing car dependency. The overall goal is to reduce CO2-emission by at least 60 percent by 2030. The municipality and the county have adapted several strategies and plans for spatial development and transport to reach this goal. Several solutions are pointed out, and increased uptake of shared mobility is one of them.
The broader aim of increasing use of shared mobility is to offer an alternative to individual car usage and then again contribute to reduce car dependency. To increase the use of shared mobility such as bus, train, shared cars and shared micro mobility, the partners have worked together on a feasibility study and have developed spatial plans for 3 mobility hubs in the center of Tønsberg. Through dialogue with private mobility providers and other stakeholders, we have been able to launch the first mobility hub at the railway station.
The plan is to launch the next two hubs during 2023. The hubs vary in scale and are defined as Lage, Medium and Small. At the railway station (Large) the providers offer shared cars, shared electric bikes (small number), electric scooters, safe bike parking and bike repair. Bus, taxi and train is nearby. You also find a pick-up and delivery point for packages. At Kaldnes (Medium) the providers offer shared cars, electric scooters and safe bike parking. Nearby you find a pick-up and delivery point for packages and a bus-stop. In Sørbyen (Small) the providers offer shared cars and electric scooters.
