Smart Floor, an SME from the Dutch province of Brabant, successfully partnered with Aarhus Municipality and travelled to Denmark to pilot their solution. When a person walks on the Smart Floor, various parameters are measured, such as walking speed, step length, step frequency, and foot acceleration. Data is collected via a wearable sensor worn around the ankle and transmitted to the Smart Floor software application, which quantifies and visualises the person’s movement data. Based on these parameters, a validated algorithm predicts the individual’s risk of falling. By identifying this risk, older adults with a high likelihood of falling can begin specific physiotherapy programmes to prevent falls and maintain their independence and health.
