Main content

Pilot site overview

The Groenekruislaan is a street in the neighbourhood of Dubbeldam which lies next to part of Dordrecht’s City Park (Dordwijkzone), the area is not well connected to surrounding nature.

Pre-implementation challenges in pilot site

  • High density of houses and limited green or blue space
  • Poor connections to nearby nature
  • High risk of flooding during heavy rain
  • High heat stress due to limited shade

Interventions planned

  • Build better connections between natural areas, parks and residential zones
  • Design homes and gardens that support local nature
  • Monitor local plant and animal species and research how to better support habitats

Expected impact

Implementing nature-inclusive design in Dubbeldam creates greener, more livable neighbourhoods. This will boost biodiversity, help residents feel more connected to local nature, while reducing risk of heat stress and flooding.
