Tomorrow we celebarate the 20th anniversary of Earth Hour!
For the past 20 years, millions of people, communities and businesses around the world have switched off their lights from 20:30–21:30 as a symbol of commitment to environmental protection.
This symbolic action has grown into a global movement. Many people now use this day to reconnect with nature and to support their local environment through actions both big and small.
We would like to invite you to do the same!
Lighting
Have you ever really noticed the lighting around you? Take a short walk and observe the different types of public lighting in your neighbourhood. Then look around your home. Which artificial lights are truly necessary at night? Could any outdoor or decorative lighting be reduced, adapted or switched off more often?
Enjoy nature
Take some time tomorrow to go outside and notice the nature around you. Look at the night sky, join a dark sky tour near you, take part in an environmental volunteer activity in your community, visit a repair café or sustainability workshop, or watch a documentary or read a good book about nature. Which interaction with nature or sustainable action would bring you the most joy tomorrow?
Everyday choices
Take a moment to reflect on your sustainability values and your everyday actions. Do they align? Would you like to do more for nature? What role does environmentally friendly behaviour play in your daily life? And what could help you live a little more sustainably?
Whatever you choose, we hope you enjoy this Earth Hour and especially that one hour of darkness!
