Our local project partners introduce our demonstrator site at the harbour of Norddeich in Germany, located next to the Wadden Sea National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site.

NPorts, the port authority of Norddeich, presents the newly developed lighting system. It is designed to reduce light emissions, support biodiversity and still meet safety and legal requirements. As part of the project, a “Walk of Light” was installed in the harbour, showing four different light colours from cooler to warmer tones.

The site is scientifically monitored by the University of Oldenburg and the Lower Saxon Wadden Sea National Park Authority. The team explains how light levels are measured before and after the lighting changes and how impacts on insects, birds, bats, benthos and the night sky are studied.
