In our new video, we visit the harbour of Lauwersoog, the Netherlands, a unique location between the Wadden Sea and the Lauwersmeer Dark Sky Park. We speak with Piet Zijlstra, a key local initiator, about our ongoing efforts to reduce light pollution in the harbour.

As one of the demonstrator sites in the Interreg North Sea Project DARKER SKY, Lauwersoog is showing how ports can transition to smarter, more sustainable lighting without compromising safety or functionality. Through a bottom-up approach, local businesses, residents and institutions have co-created a “Masterplan Darkness” – a visionary plan to reduce light emissions by ~50% by 2026.
Many thanks to the filming and production team of Jester & Wylde!
