Familjebostäder has opened two new sharing stations in Gothenburg, one in Majorna and one in Högsbo, offering tenants the opportunity to borrow tools and everyday items instead of buying new ones. These are the final two of three sharing stations being deployed by Familjebostäder as part of the EU-funded Digital Kiosks project.

Familjebostäder is one of the largest housing providers in Gothenburg, owning more than 19,000 apartments across the city. As part of the Digital Kiosks project, they are deploying three sharing stations in and around their residence buildings at three Gothenburg locations: Majorna, Högsbo and Eriksbo. The latest two stations are located in Majorna and Högsbo and offer practical household items, such as DIY tools. The Eriksbo sharing station was deployed in the summer of 2025 in cooperation with the Leksaksbiblioteket (Toy Library) and offers shared sports equipment and toys to residents.

This is about making a sustainable everyday life easier. By sharing items, we reduce both consumption and waste while giving more people access to what they need"

Josephina Wilson, Project Manager at Familjebostäder

The content of the lockers has been shaped directly by the tenants. Over the past year, Familjebostäder has carried out workshops and surveys in Majorna and Högsbo, gathering nearly 400 suggestions on what residents would like to borrow - ranging from sewing machines and drills to games, kitchen tools and hobby equipment.

The tenants have been highly engaged, and their suggestions have made it possible to create sharing solutions that feel relevant and useful in everyday life

Emelie Garvik, Development Leader at Familjebostäder

As the only housing provider in the EU-funded Digital Kiosks project, the Familjebostäder pilots are exploring how housing companies and residence buildings can take part in the sharing economy and offer new benefits to their residents. By placing sharing stations in and around apartment buildings, the sharing of household appliances is made as convenient as possible for local residents while also fostering a sense of community between neighbours.

The project allows us to test different solutions in real environments and learn more about how sharing works together with tenants and local partners,

The Majorna sharing station launched on 6 December at an event that also featured a clothes swap, sewing assistance, an art presentation and a live demonstration of the sharing station. In Högsbo, meanwhile, the sharing station launch coincided with the local Christmas market where tenants were able to test out their new sharing station.

We can't wait to see how Familjebostäder's sharing stations are used and developed over the remainder of the pilot period!
