Port of Esbjerg has completed a significant modernisation of its port control and watchkeeping facilities, introducing a fully integrated digital control room that provides a consolidated, real-time overview of vessel movements, cargo flows, on-site activities, and drone operations. The upgraded system enhances situational awareness, operational coordination, and emergency preparedness in one of Europe’s most important hubs for offshore wind and large-scale maritime logistics.

The initiative is supported by the Interreg North Sea Programme as part of the DIOL project. Within DIOL, Port of Esbjerg plays a central role as a logistics hub preparing for the increasing demands linked to offshore wind expansion, new energy islands, and the green transition in the North Sea basin. The upgraded control room directly contributes to DIOL’s ambition of strengthening the digital, operational, and security capacities of ports and airports serving the offshore energy sector.

The investment has attracted considerable attention across the maritime and offshore industry. Several leading international and national sector media have highlighted Esbjerg’s digital transformation and its relevance for future offshore operations. This strong media response underlines the broader significance of the port’s development efforts and the value of DIOL’s transnational cooperation in accelerating innovative solutions across logistics hubs.

With its new digital port control, Port of Esbjerg is better equipped to support the installation, operation, and maintenance of offshore renewable energy projects, while also contributing to knowledge sharing and capacity building among DIOL partners region-wide.
