This event is organized by AMS Institute in collaboration with our project partner City of Amsterdam. AMS Institute is a unique transdisciplinary urban innovation ecosystem, rooted in its founding institutes TU Delft, Wageningen University & Research, and MIT, and shaped by its partnership with the City of Amsterdam.

Focus: How can we connect the dots between research, practice, and policy – and close the loops that turn knowledge into real urban impact?

Over three days, the conference combines applied and fundamental research through thought-provoking keynotes, workshops, paper presentations, and discussions, all focused on the most pressing urban challenges: from mobility and circularity to energy transition, digitalization, and climate adaptation.

MoLo Hubs Session
Our partners from the Netherlands and Belgium will present insights from two MoLo Hubs pilots conducted in Amsterdam and Mechelen that explore how cities can reduce reliance on conventional vans by enabling technicians to use light electric vehicles (LEVs) for inner-city service trips.

  • The Park + Switch hub in Amsterdam, located at the edge of the zero-emission zone, allows service providers to park their vans and continue their trip using shared LEVs such as cargo bikes, scooters or city cars. They will share the experiences and changes in operational efficiency of three pilot participants. Find out more about the pilot >>
  • In Mechelen, the city partnered with the regional water utility PIDPA to test the use of cargo bikes for maintenance tasks. They will share the results from field observations and a three-week pilot. Find out more about the pilot >>

Together, these pilots demonstrate the feasibility, challenges and potential of shifting service logistics toward lighter, more eco-friendly modes that occupy less space than vans.
