Can Aalborg's multifunctional Basebox solution work in other cities and municipalities? The answer is a convincing YES. There was great interest from other municipalities and companies, when Aalborg's boxes were showcased and tested at various conferences in April 2025.
In the beginning of April, The Danish Competence Center for Circular Transformation held a conference focusing on how far municipalities have come with waste sorting and what requirements and opportunities lie ahead. The participants were Danish municipalities and companies that work in the waste sector. Aalborg Municipality and Homerunner presented the box and the different options being tested in Aalborg.
Later in April, the multifunctional Basebox was presented at the Climate & Environment Summit, which is the Danish Municipalities' major annual political conference on climate, technology and environment. Around 1.000 participants as municipal politicians, parliamentary speakers, the municipalities' partners, municipal directors and managers in the field joined political dialogues, debates and knowledge sharing. Aalborg Municipality and Homerunner presented the Basebox solution and invited participants to try the box.
At both conferences, the exhibition, presentation and test resulted in many interesting questions and new ideas from the participants. They expressed that a solution like the Basebox would also be very useful in their municipalities. The participants had the opportunity to try the box themselves and see how hazardous waste, textile waste, the delivery of waste bags and loan of books are handled. At the same time, results and data from the first year were presented, which clearly show a need for the solution. During the first year, over 2 tons of hazardous waste have been collected. At the same time 120 kilos of textile waste is collected each month. This shows a great need for and use of the solution, not only in Aalborg.
The participants showed great interest in the box, as it meets several needs that many municipalities have. The feedback was, that the Basebox solution ensures both easy and accessible collection of different waste types. At the same time, it meets public service offerings, both in large cities and in rural areas. Many municipalities could see new opportunities to optimize their service and were very positive about the possibility of combining different solutions and services.
It was clear to the participants that a simple and flexible multifunctional box solution can generate great value for citizens and the environment, in various cities and municipalities.
