On 13 September, a Molo hub ("Returpunkten") opened at Stora Brogatan 7 in Borås – a pilot project where goods services, waste management, reuse and relevant information activities are coordinated in a mobility hub. Here, private individuals can, among other things, pick up and drop off parcels, sort waste and find free bargains among things that get a second chance.
"We have identified a clear benefit in coordinating waste collection, reuse and goods deliveries in the same platform, and this can be an important step in reducing both traffic and climate impact in the city center. As a first step we are testing the concept, and then we will see how we can take it further," says Sara Thiel, business developer at City of Borås.
A new service concept in the heart of Borås
”Returpunkten” is located at Stora Brogatan 7 in the city center, and was inaugurated on 13 September. The hub will be open until 31 March 2026, when the concept will be evaluated.
Media was invited prior to the opening and representatives from City of Borås and partners were on site for questions and interviews.
At Returpunkten, residents will be able to:
- Hand in smaller things you don't need, and that can be used by others
- Find bargains among things worth a second chance via the Return Chance
- Sorting waste easily
- Pick up and drop off packages
- Get information about sustainable circularity
Common solutions for the demands of the future
The service hub ”Returpunkten” develops new services to reduce freight traffic in city centres and increase access to sustainable solutions. The initiative is also linked to upcoming requirements for waste collection in close proximity to housing and real estate, where there is often a lack of space in existing buildings. By coordinating reuse, waste collection and logistics, Borås wants to meet these requirements in an efficient way.
"One of our biggest challenges has been to bring together all the relevant actors and create a common vision. Through a thorough feasibility study and early dialogue, we have built a strong collaboration with commitment from all parties," says Jonas Widerström, business developer at City of Borås.
The project is run by City of Borås in collaboration with Borås Energi och Miljö, Centrumfastigheter i Borås, Borås City, iBoxen, Stures Åkeri, Återbruk, and Lundqvist Förvaltning.
