Offshore energy storage is gaining momentum within the offshore renewable energy sectors, and its potentials were highlighted at the recent ees - electrical energy storage Europe conference. Representing the OASIS: Offshore Accelerator for System Integration and Storage project and DMEC (Dutch Marine Energy Centre), Benjamin Lehner joined a panel of industry leaders to deliver the following key insights:
⚡ Offshore storage enables both peak shaving and (dynamic) curtailment management
🌐 Forecasting will be critical to optimize offshore and onshore storage operations
🔋While further cost reductions are needed, viable business models already exist at €300/kWh battery CAPEX
Together with experts from Bnewable, sonnen GmbH, ECO STOR GmbH, SMA Solar, and moderated by Hochschule für angewandte Wissenschaften Kempten, the panel drew strong interest in how technical developments and new regulations are accelerating real-world applications and supporting the energy transition.
The OASIS project is driving innovation in offshore storage and system integration alongside game-changing technology developers.
