SMALL took part in the Interreg SLAM 2025 award ceremony and won the European Commission Special Award!
On 27 March 2025, the European cooperation community came together in the twin cities of Gorizia (Italy) and Nova Gorica (Slovenia) to celebrate 35 years of Interreg at the flagship Interreg Go! event. Set in a shared square between the two cities, the gathering symbolised the spirit of cross-border collaboration that has defined Interreg over the decades.
Over two dynamic days, participants explored both the legacy and the future of Interreg.
Day one focused on defining the programme’s role beyond 2027 within the upcoming EU Multiannual Financial Framework. Discussions addressed critical issues such as overcoming border barriers, enhancing cooperation with neighbouring and candidate countries, and tackling global challenges like climate change, migration, and security.
Day two turned the spotlight on the current programming period (2021–2027), with sessions evaluating progress, discussing Operations of Strategic Importance (OSI), and exploring flexibility in funding and governance. Thematic discussions ranged from tourism and healthcare to water resilience and disaster risk management.
High-level speakers, including EU representatives, ministers, and regional leaders, offered valuable insights throughout the event, which was also live-streamed for broader access.
Organised in partnership with Interreg Italy–Slovenia, EGTC GO!, the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region, Slovenia’s Ministry for Cohesion and Regional Development, and Interact, Interreg Go! served as both a celebration and a strategic milestone for the future of European cooperation.
So, what about SMALL?
One of the highlights of the event was the Interreg SLAM 2025 award ceremony, which celebrated Stories of Inclusion and Empowerment. SMALL was among the six featured projects that showcased tangible impact in promoting inclusive transport solutions. Each project had the opportunity to perform on stage, showcasing their goals, mission and commitment.
Participating in the finale was already a great achievement, but it did not stop there.
SMALL won the European Commission Special Award.
This is an important milestone for SMALL, especially considering that the project is ongoing, making the recognition even more remarkable: SMALL’s mission is being heard—loud and clear.
