Mechelen (1): Ghandiwijk
Gandhiwijk, a new residential neighborhood in Mechelen, combines social housing with mid-segment rental units to create a mixed and diverse community. With 790 housing units supporting 1,787 residents, the project integrates community service facilities to enhance the living experience.
The development features a dedicated mobility hub with a bus stop, fostering public transport use and reducing car dependency. With a four-year mobility integration period, Gandhiwijk aims to set new standards for sustainable urban living. We also plan to introduce a mobility budget for the residents that will lower the barrier to try out different mobility solutions instead of using privately owned cars.
