Collective Impact Model

CIM
Main content

The Hannah Arendt Institute in Mechelen (Belgium), one of our Speak Up partners, has created a different way of establishing participation between inhabitants and governments. The Collective Impact Model (CIM) focuses mostly on cooperation between different organisations working on the same problems, such as governments, businesses, non-profits, community organisations, and inhabitants. To achieve this, the organisations have to focus on sharing and communication. These terms are vague and leave much up for interpretation, which is exactly the point. The CIM is incredibly flexible, which means it can be applied to many situations and organisations, becoming incredibly effective in implementing participation everywhere. The CIM isn’t completely theoretical either: the researchers created three case studies in the Speak Up project to test the CIM and provide a practical side to the report. The case studies happened in Malmö (Sweden), Mechelen (Belgium), and Skive (Denmark).
