What is the challenge?
Water availability is under increasing pressure. Tourism contributes significantly to water consumption, particularly in accommodation settings. Reducing usage requires greater awareness among guests and changes in behaviour.
Why this pilot?
Vitens, the regional water company, has strategies to support large companies in reducing water use. However, the tourism sector requires tailored interventions and clearer monitoring tools.
What is being done?
- A workshop with Vitens and tourism entrepreneurs to define actions and evaluation methods
- Baseline measurement of water consumption
- Installation of communication interventions
- Ongoing monitoring of water usage
- A QR-code questionnaire for guests
Since July 2025, water use has been monitored. Early results indicate that interventions are contributing to a reduction in consumption. The pilot will continue for further evaluation.
Who is involved and what is the 3ST approach?
Vitens, VieVia, VCF and Ynbusiness collaborate within the 3ST ToC framework to test and refine behavioural interventions.
What will it deliver?
- An intervention strategy to reduce water consumption
- Practical tools for SMEs
- Insight into water use patterns and intervention effectiveness
