The Eco Congress took place in Papenburg on March 12th and 13th.
The Eco congress is organized by our partner 3N kompetenzzentrum, it brought together experts from science, industry, and practice to explore how regional resources can contribute to a sustainable future.
We were present at the congress representing the Buildin Based on BioBased (BBoBB) project.
The congress opened with keynote speeches, including a contribution from Friso Douwstra, Regional Minister of the Provincie Fryslân. This was followed by inspiring talks from Erik Fledderus from BBoBB partner Circulair Friesland on biobased construction in Fryslân and Petra Boorsma from other BBoBB partner Biosintrum on paludiculture and sustainable cultivation in wetland areas.

Our BBoBB project leader Charlotte Strijbos shared insights to the successful circular economy approach in Province of Fryslân and the role of of regional governments in accelerating this transition. She also highlighted the knowledge gained through the BBoBB project and how it is now being shared to encourage wider adoption of bio based building practices, supported by the large network of partners and stakeholders built during the project.
Throughout the congress, sessions focused on:
• ready-to-use biobased building materials
• showcasing real-life applications
• the steps needed to scale up implementation

Participants also had the opportunity to visit outdoor demonstration sites, including the wooden pavilion developed within the BBoBB project under the Interreg North Sea Programme.

The congress showed how regional collaboration, innovation, and biobased solutions can help accelerate the transition to a circular and biobased built environment.
