A new crab trap is installed on the Bollaak in Emblem (Ranst, Belgium) to help manage the Chinese mitten crab population in the Bollaak stream.

A new crab trap has been installed on the Bollaak in Emblem (Ranst, Belgium) to help manage the population of the Chinese mitten crab in this waterway. The crabs caught in this trap are redirected to the attractant current of the Kleine Nete, just beyond its confluence with the Bollaak. From there, they eventually end up in the baskets of the crab trap located in Grobbendonk.

The installation of the trap took approximately two weeks and required damming the stream temporarily.

Watch the timelapse video to see how the crab trap was constructed.
