From June 15th to the 20th, DEMASK has participated in the 2025 Underwater Acoustics Conference and Exhibition (UACE2025)! Initiated by late Professors Leif Bjørnø and John S. Papadakis, the UACE2025 covered all aspects of underwater acoustics and acoustical oceanography, serving as a unique forum for the exchange of recent research results. TNO has presented their research results on the shipping lane underwater noise simulations for DEMASK.

About UACE 2025

The conference took place in Halkidiki, Greece at the Porto Carras Grand Resort Meliton. It brought together a diverse group of scientists and engineers from universities, research institutes, governmental organizations and industry, all working in various areas of underwater acoustics. It also attracted representatives from naval material commands and procurement offices. The event features a well-structured program, including both oral- and poster presentations. Structured sessions were led by prominent researchers in the field, with invited talks delivered by internationally recognized experts. Alongside these, regular oral sessions showcased the latest findings through contributed papers, offering a comprehensive overview of current advancements and challenges in underwater acoustics research.

DEMASK’s contribution on shipping lane underwater noise simulation

On Tuesday 17th of June, DEMASK’s Timo Gaida, Christ de Jong and Bas Binnerts from TNO have presented their research on shipping lane underwater noise simulations. Among other researchers, they have presented their study in the Underwater Noise in the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive: Implementation. Monitoring, assessment and measures session. They have showcased their project goal, the contribution of TNO to the research, the methodology and results, concluding that gaining full insight into the effect of mitigation measure requires all SPL metrics to be considered. Overall, the event was a success, and DEMASK would like to thank TNO for their valuable contribution to the conference!
