The seminar provides practical guidance and peer exchange for protected area managers and island stakeholders on conservation and island sustainability. It explores current trends, types of protected areas, governance structures, and the role of protected areas in supporting sustainable island development. Based on research, good practice, and participant experiences, the seminar is interactive and requires no advance preparation or follow-up.
Certificates will be issued to all those who successfully complete the Winter School webinar.

It is expected that participants attend both sessions as they will follow on from each other.
Dr. Cormac Walsh, a partner on the FREIIA project is a social science researcher at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg and an independent researcher and consultant, working with public authorities and NGOs on environmental planning, governance and spatial planning topics. His areas of research expertise include protected area management, marine governance and coastal management.
