On Schiermonnikoog, climate change is already affecting our water supply. The WaterBattle app, developed through the Interreg North Sea project FREIIA, turns awareness into action. Children from North Sea islands compete to save water, learning through play how to protect the planet.

Climate change is not a distant threat on Schiermonnikoog

It’s happening now. Rising temperatures are placing increasing pressure on one of our most vital resources: water.

But there is hope.

Through innovation, education, and the power of digital tools, young people are learning how to make a difference. One exciting example is the WaterBattle app – a unique, interactive game where children from islands across the North Sea region compete to save water in their everyday lives.

It’s more than just a game. It’s a fun and educational experience designed to empower the next generation to take climate action and protect our planet.
