What is GLEAM NSR?

GLEAM NSR aims to facilitate the development and implementation of ambitious policies and governance frameworks to support sustainable urban logistics in cities. This initiative is dedicated to ensuring that both larger enterprises and SMEs are equipped to thrive in this environment. The project will create or upscale multi-level, multi-stakeholder collaboration platforms where the inputs of governments, academics, industry, and citizens will be used to develop more efficient and equitable policies and actions for just and green urban logistics.

Who are Gleam NSR partners?

The GLEAM NSR consortium is composed of 11 members led by the University of Groningen and assisted by Bax & Company for the coordination.

What is our concrete research about?

Mapping data of logistics landscapes and SMEs

Based on the context and team’s knowledge of the participating cities, the GLEAM NSR  consortium will map the intricate logistics landscapes and the engagement of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) within various urban logistics sectors. One of the goals is to develop a clearer view on the basic and more advanced situations in this field. These resources and capabilities can include:

  • Identifying data sources for understanding urban logistics flows holistically.
  • Segmenting data sources to discern nuances across different urban logistics sectors, such as parcel delivery, construction logistics, waste management, facility goods and services, and retail (both food and non-food).
  • Identifying data sources on the role of SMEs in different urban logistics segments.

Mapping urban logistics policy instruments

The GLEAM NSR team will also conduct a thorough inventory of existing and forthcoming urban logistics policy instruments in their respective cities, encompassing governance structures and digitalisation initiatives. The objective is to investigate the correlation between policy motivations and instrument selection, and to assess their implementation and effectiveness.
