H2Ignite, through its partners in in Schleswig Holstein and Europe-Universität Flensburg, participated in this year’s Tag der Logistik, hosted by the Future Fuels Cluster in Neumünster — a region positioning itself as a key logistics hub between Central and Northern Europe.

Neumünster is home to Europe’s largest hydrogen refuelling station, operated by HYPION GmbH, with a capacity of 2,000 kg per day. The event focused on sustainable transport solutions and the challenges faced by the logistics sector as it transitions to climate-neutral operations.

Key insights were gathered looking into the growing momentum behind battery-electric trucks. Increasingly viable due to toll exemptions, private charging opportunities, and improving technology. As well asl how constraints on the electricity grid and high costs for public charging still remain critical barriers.

Hydrogen trucks were acknowledged as a future-ready solution. Although limited vehicle availability remains a challenge, positive operational experience from companies such as Voigt-Logistik and plans by manufacturers including Volvo and MAN to scale hydrogen truck production point to a promising role for hydrogen in freight decarbonisation.

H2Ignite continues to monitor developments in zero-emission logistics to support informed infrastructure and policy planning across the hydrogen ecosystem.
