H2ignite Consortium Gathers in Copenhagen to Accelerate Green Hydrogen Innovation Across the North Sea Region!
It was time for the H2ignite project consortium to come together once again—this time in Copenhagen—for two intensive and inspiring days of collaboration, hosted by STRING. The meeting brought together our partners to reflect on progress, exchange knowledge, and align on the next steps to drive regional hydrogen innovation forward across the North Sea Region.
The first day opened with a keynote presentation by Mr. Sven Friedrich, Project Manager of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region project HyTruck, who provided valuable insights into the development of hydrogen-powered heavy-duty vehicle infrastructure in Europe. His presentation set the tone for a full day of workshops, updates, and discussions across the consortium.
Throughout the day, consortium members engaged in parallel workshops and project activity updates, focusing on key themes including policy innovation, business model development, and infrastructure deployment for green hydrogen. Project partners also received updates from the four regional pilot ecosystems established through H2ignite. These pilot presentations highlighted tangible progress on the ground and showcased how local initiatives are contributing to the broader objective of a sustainable and integrated hydrogen value chain.
To conclude the first day, participants were invited on a guided canal tour through central Copenhagen – offering an opportunity to connect informally and enjoy the city’s scenic surroundings.
The second day of the consortium meeting continued with a focus on long-term impact and knowledge transfer. The morning began with a keynote address by Mr. Erik Udbye of European Energy, who presented recent developments in Power-to-X technologies, with a special focus on the Kassø (Denmark) electrolysis plant. Notably, the facility had produced its first refined e-methanol just two days prior, marking a significant milestone for green fuel production in the region.
Following the keynote, consortium members participated in a hands-on workshop aimed at exploring how to capitalise on the knowledge and insights developed through H2ignite. The session focused on strategies for ensuring that outcomes from the project are effectively shared, maintained, and leveraged across regions and sectors. The meeting concluded with a final session to align on upcoming project milestones and the overall roadmap for the next phases of H2ignite.
Among the many inspiring takeaways was one participant’s imaginative impact statement envisioning “zero-emission strawberries transported by hydrogen trucks”—a vivid example of the kind of future H2ignite aims to help realise.
STRING extends its sincere gratitude to all consortium partners for their active participation and contributions throughout the meeting. We are already looking forward to the next H2ignite Consortium Meeting, which will be hosted by the Ministerium für Landwirtschaft, ländliche Räume, Europa und Verbraucherschutz des Landes Schleswig-Holstein (MLLEV) in Brussels in October, during European Hydrogen Week!
