Since its launch in 2020, the Enschede Fietst app has quietly become a local favourite. What started as a small initiative to get people moving has grown into a vibrant cycling community, and the numbers show it.

Every month, thousands of Enschede residents open the app, hop on their bikes, and track their rides. Whether it’s a quick commute, a scenic detour, or a personal challenge, the app makes cycling just a bit more fun.
What is Enschede Fietst?
It’s a free app for Android and iOS, designed specifically for people living in Enschede. You can:
- Track your bike rides
- Join seasonal challenges
- Earn rewards for cycling in and around the city
It’s not just about kilometres, it’s about making cycling part of everyday life.
The Numbers Tell a Story
Back in April 2020, we had just over 1,700 active users. Fast forward to recent months, and we’re seeing more than 3,000 monthly cyclists using the app. That’s nearly double and the trend is still going strong.
Summer months tend to be the busiest (no surprise there), but even in the colder seasons, the app keeps people motivated. Whether it’s a winter challenge or a springtime ride to work, there’s always something happening.
Still Growing
The Enschede Fietst app has laid the foundation for something even bigger. It inspired the development of a new national cycling app, currently being rolled out in 6 of the 12 Dutch provinces as part of the MegaBITS program. What started in Enschede is now helping shape the future of cycling across the Netherlands.
Ready to Ride?
The app works everywhere, so whether you’re from Enschede or just visiting, you can download Enschede Fietst for iOS or Android and start tracking your rides. It’s free, easy to use, and available in the app stores.
Want to earn rewards? You’ll just need to make a trip to Enschede.
