The European Commission’s Urban Mobility Observatory published a case study exploring the BITS and MegaBITS projects’ contributions to making cycling safer, smarter, and more inclusive in urban areas.

The study, drawing on insights from interviews with Wim Dijkstra and Ronald Jorna of the MegaBITS project management team, shows how data and digital tools can boost cycling uptake across Europe. It illustrates the use of innovative digital solutions in the two projects and highlights how leveraging these technologies helps cities better understand cyclist behavior, optimize urban traffic flow, and implement targeted safety measures.

The insights from BITS and MegaBITS offer practical guidance for policymakers, urban planners, and mobility stakeholders aiming to foster more sustainable and accessible cycling environments.
