A site visit to Ameland gathers the Dutch partners Firda, Gemeente Ameland, and Learning Hub Friesland to discuss the latest on Short Advanced Course (SAC) design.

On 2 July, a collaborative session took place on Ameland that brought together vocational teachers, local installers, and municipal representatives to shape two new Short Advanced Courses (SACs) designed as part of the NESSIE project.

Developed by Firda, the courses aim to spark interest among newcomers and career changers while addressing real workforce needs. The pilot topics?
🔌 Energy Management Systems – preparing installers to work with smart and integrated systems.
🏠 Integral Building – a whole-building approach to sustainable construction and renovation.

With insights from local installers and support from Learning Hub Friesland, the courses are being refined to ensure they are both practical and appealing. The goal is to build training that doesn’t just meet formal standards—but also meets local needs.

A regional ambition, a European push
This initiative is part of NESSIE’s broader mission: creating practice-oriented education that helps regional labour markets thrive in the green transition. For Ameland, it also supports their bold ambition of being fossil-free by 2035.

Next steps? A hands-on exploration of different Energy Management Systems to select the most suitable solution for the island’s context.

By co-developing these courses with those on the ground, NESSIE ensures that future installers don’t just learn about the energy transition—they help build it.
