On 27 February, NESSIE partners from Morbihan Energies and IUT Lorient & Pontivy visited a photovoltaic production site in Guidel, Brittany. The aim? To evaluate the site’s potential as a hands-on training location for students and trainees in the energy transition sector.

The installation—comprising two solar arrays deployed in 2022—offers ideal conditions for site-based learning. Its accessible layout, including visible electrical connections and inverter equipment, allows for in-depth exploration of solar energy systems. The site operates under a collective self-consumption model, making it a practical example for future Short Advanced Courses (SACs) on the legislative and financial aspects of energy sharing.

As part of the visit, partners discussed how this facility could support NESSIE’s training activities through structured, dynamic site visits. A four-stage format was proposed: context setting, system design, guided on-site data collection, and post-visit reporting. The team hopes to pilot this format with IUT students in spring 2025.

Beyond the educational value, the visit also helped refine Morbihan’s strategic contributions to Work Package 1 and kickstart local planning for WP2. Discussions included the future instrumentation of the site—adding weather stations and sub-metering—for a more interactive learning experience.

The Guidel visit marks another step toward realising NESSIE’s vision: providing learners with meaningful, real-world exposure to the technologies shaping Europe’s energy future.
