During a Blue Ports meeting on the 7th of November 2024 in Roermond, Dutch SPIES partner ‘Provincie Limburg’ had the opportunity to present the Interreg North Sea project SPIES, including its main goals to the members of Blue Ports.

Blue Ports (a collaboration between 11 Dutch Limburg ports) is a partnership of inland ports, which works closely with the Dutch Association of Inland Ports the so called “NVB” (Nederlandse Vereniging van Binnenhavens).
The European obligation (AFIR) to install shore-based power facilities in European inland ports was touched upon. Several relevant topics were discussed such as for example data uniformity, open access and the alignment of market needs and solutions.
The intention of SPIES is to develop a policy recommendation plan in co-creation, that will be delivered and introduced to policy levels to coordinate the roll out of shore power, in order to create a fair and competitive shore power market and to avoid too dominant market positions.
