Building

Firma van Buiten, a training company that offers catering and meeting locations. It is temporary (built in 2020 and will remain in place for 10 years), prepared for aquathermal energy in the design phase, but air heat pumps were chosen at the time.

Use water body

The building is located next to the Thijssevaart, a small drainage canal with a local widening. Compact heat exchangers will be installed here, which will be connected to several heat pumps.

Conveniences

The pipe sleeves are already in the concrete floor (two of them up to the waterline) and there is probably more than enough space in the technical room for additional installation. The air heat pumps remain in place and can serve as a backup (with a lower COP). In the longer term, there may be opportunities to scale up to a (future) local LT heat network, with or without seasonal storage.

Difficulties

The water is shallow, so we are curious how much heat can be extracted in the different seasons without negatively affecting the water quality (or actually having a positive effect, such as heat extraction in the summer). Sufficient sensors around the heat exchangers and a solid measurement plan will help us with this.
