Danish municipalities are responsible for heat and energy planning for citizens, industry, business etc. Middelfart is committed to replace fossil fuels H/C systems with sustainable alternatives. The main competences are planning and implementing of renewable energy for space heating in compliance with rules and regulations regarding spatial planning, building permissions, and guarantees for financial loans. The municipality of Middelfart has a specific competence in areas related to the WaterWarmth project as the AE technology was implemented within the municipality as one of the first 5 generation district heating systems in Denmark. The municipality has experience on dissemination and transnational sharing of knowledge is also a key competence. Middelfart won the EDEN award 2022 as European Destination of excellence
WaterWarmth project role: The Municipality of Middelfart experiences large interest from citizens to support them in the transition to sustainable heating systems. The municipality will support cooperative AE pilot system in Fjelsted-Harndrup and also support Føns and Brenderup with local developments and exploring the AE potential.
Middelfart will create plans for a renewable energy system that’s most suitable according to Danish law (Business plan showing best case for new energy system Heatpumps/District heating /AE/Termonet/biomass etc). This requires additional capacity.
