Pilot - Ouistreham, France

The site
We supply Aquathermal Energy in the building dedicated to water sports activities and safety.
We are going to use sea water and we decided to choose this surface water because Normandy has a lot of coastlines which could be used to provide heating and cooling. It is an important resource of the region, around 600 km of coastline.

Governance
BUILDERS will manage the implementation of the pilot site. Regarding the governance aspect, the pilot is owned by the city and the works are under the supervision of Ports de Normandie (Normandy Ports) which is the local authority approving the modification of the area.

Status
Development phase - Waiting for the last technical details by the end of July. Permits are agreed, we are just waiting to receive the letter but the site is approved.
Implementation should start in September 2024.

What can we learn from the pilot
As our pilot is based only on one building, according to the results, we will be able to communicate about it and then convince local authorities to support aquathermal energy.
We already have local authorities interested by the outputs of the project.

Challenges
Before the approval, permit process was difficult and tricky.
Taking into account environmental impacts (positive and negative).
Possible delays in the implementation due to tides or work agenda.

Other sources
We don't have a district heating network but the building is already supplied by an air source heat pump that will be kept to compare. The technical system will also be used for the Water Heat Pump.
