On 27 October 2025, the Global Change Ecology Centre of the University of Antwerp hosted an insightful afternoon symposium 'Mitten crabs in Europe - What do we know so far?' as part of the CLANCY project. The event brought together leading researchers and stakeholders to share the latest scientific knowledge on the invasive Chinese mitten crab in Europe.

The symposium featured presentations from experts across several countries, covering a wide range of topics including ecological and genetic insights, as well as practical management experiences from Flanders and beyond. This exchange of knowledge provided a unique opportunity for dialogue between science and practice, engaging academics alongside professionals in water policy, water management, and invasive species control.

The day concluded with the PhD defence of Heleen Keirseblik, titled 'A century of Chinese mitten crab invasion: Lessons learnt on the ecology and behaviour of the species in Belgium."
