To better support its river-based members around the world, AIVP created the "River Port Cities" Working Group in 2024. It aims to include the network’s inland ports and river cities, as well as researchers and private sector stakeholders, to better support them in the variety of issues that distinguish them from coastal cities and ports.

After two successful meetings in Strasbourg (France) and Sevilla (Spain), the group will meet in London (UK).

For two days, the participants will discover what makes the port of London a leading port and the innovative projects around London's waterways.

As a tidal river from London to the sea, the Thames encompasses many specific challenges. The participants will learn more about Port of London Authority’s work on ensuring a clean river ecosystem while promoting river transport, increasing the role of the river as an inclusive destination and developing work and leisure uses on the waterway.

The second day will be focused on the Royal Docks project, presenting the biggest urban project in London currently. Participants will discover how central the water is in the area's urban planning and how the Greater London Authority is repurposing former industrial areas into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood.

The Connected River Project will be featured to share with the working group members some of the Flow Forward Methodology, and work on enhancing current projects' impact.

This event is for AIVP members and Connected River partners.
