In our Focus on series, we will present the experiences of our partners with the methods used. Based on the pilots’ lessons learned within the pilot areas, Connected River delivers a playbook (strategy) to maximise uptake and transferability of the Flow Forward approach.
Flow Forward breaks through the current linear, static approach and provides responsible authorities with a fit-for-future approach to respond to challenges that shared waterways and waterfronts face.
The project partner InnoValor focuses on the development and introduction of user-oriented and short-cycle innovation methods. They support the project as a knowledge partner and investigate the effectiveness of various methodologies in practice in our 6 pilot areas. The result is an innovation toolbox that can also be used for other spatial development issues.

Partner: Rijkswaterstaat
Pilot Area: Amsterdam IJ
The Amsterdam river IJ is a busy waterway, attracting diverse users, from pleasure boats to commercial barges. However, the increasing shared use of the river can pose safety and accessibility issues if not managed effectively by authorities and users. Collaborative measures are needed to maximise societal value and ensure safe and responsible use.
