Trollhättan

Eight different management regimes are being tested in our pilot with the aim to increase our knowledge on what works best to increase the biodiversity of flowering herbs.

Location

The testplots have been placed in on a green, very similar to other grass areas in our town, although this area is more species-rich than average.

Work planned/methods tested

Our eight 10x10 meter plots will be managed according to this:

  1. Burning only
  2. Burning + 1 mowing + direct collection
  3. Mowing + direct collection of the grass
  4. Mowing + direct collection + harrowing + sowing of seeds
  5. Mowings + direct collection + harrowing + hay from a species rich area
  6. Mowings + direct collection
  7. Mowing late + direct collection
  8. Managed like the rest of the area surrounding the test plots, flail mowing twice a year without collection of the cut material.

Aim of work

Our aim is to learn more of what restorations practices work better for our soiltype and circumstances and in coming years use those methods to enhance biodiversity in other grass areas.

Status right now

The summer of 2025 was the first round of testing the different management regimes. We will continue in the same way in summer 2026 while monitoring any changes in the flora compositions through yearly inventories.
