Neighbourhood of Brugge:  Damme, Beernem, Kwetshage

Work planned/methods tested

  • Early mowing (april) to reduce the dominance of grass and give more space to wild flowers.
  • Top soil removal with respectively spontaneous development and hay inoculation.
  • Sowing native seeds

The evolution of the parcels are monitored twice a year by Tansley inventarisation.

Aim of work

Investigating how we can create flower-rich graslands on former intensive agricultural land and  what the most effective methods are under different conditions.

Status right now

6 plots, 5 active in 2025: 3 early mowing, 1 top soil removed + spontaneous devolopment, 1 top soil removed + hay transfer.

In 2026, an additional plot will be installed with the sowing of a mixture of native seeds.
