Are SMEs Still Able to Access City Centres with Low Emission Zones?

As European cities advance toward climate-neutral and smart urban mobility goals, it is essential that the voices of SMEs are included in the conversation. Urban logistics account for 25% of transport-related CO₂ emissions in the EU, and most businesses operating in this sector are SMEs. However, many of these businesses are struggling to keep up with the cost, complexity, and speed of policy changes in urban mobility.

During this session hosted by SMEunited, representatives from five GLEAM NSR cities—Aarhus, Le Havre, Leuven, Mechelen, and Rotterdam—will present case studies on how their local authorities are working to implement low-emission zones and other sustainable mobility initiatives, while striving to ensure that SMEs can continue to operate effectively.

The GLEAM NSR cities are eager to hear your feedback and insights on how to further shape these policies to maintain realistic and practical access for SME service providers—such as plumbers, painters, and other tradespeople—as well as logistics companies.
