As public authorities across Europe work to implement ambitious decarbonisation strategies, influencing consumer behaviour remains a key challenge. Within the GLEAM project, we are supporting cities in advancing low-emission logistics policies while also considering how to mitigate impacts on SMEs. This session will focus specifically on the role of consumer choices, incentives, and communication strategies in shaping more sustainable logistics behavior.
Bringing together research and practical experience, the webinar will highlight lessons learned from real-world experiments and pilot projects. It will explore which behavioural approaches are most effective in encouraging urban consumers to choose greener delivery options—and which are less impactful—offering valuable insights for cities designing engagement and awareness-raising initiatives.
We are pleased to welcome two expert speakers:
Sanne Wolf (University of Groningen)
Presentation:
“The Art of Doing Nothing: A Field Experiment on Defaults, Information, and Financial Incentives for Sustainable E-commerce Delivery.”
This presentation examines how behavioural interventions influence consumers’ delivery choices in e-commerce. It compares the effects of default options, sustainability information, and financial incentives on encouraging more sustainable delivery behaviour.
Sanne is a PhD student at the University of Groningen. Her research focuses on sustainable last-mile logistics, examining both how consumer choices can be steered toward more sustainable delivery options and how logistics systems can be designed to become more sustainable overall.
Alinda Kokkinou (Breda University of Applied Sciences)
Alinda is Senior Lecturer & Researcher Driving Digital Transformation at the Breda University of Applied Sciences. Her areas of teaching and research span the interaction of processes, people and technology across multiple industries.
