As public authorities across Europe work to implement ambitious decarbonisation strategies, influencing consumer behaviour remains a key challenge. Within the GLEAM project, we are supporting cities in advancing low-emission logistics policies while also considering how to mitigate impacts on SMEs. This session will focus specifically on the role of consumer choices, incentives, and communication strategies in shaping more sustainable logistics behavior.

Bringing together research and practical experience, the webinar will highlight lessons learned from real-world experiments and pilot projects. It will explore which behavioural approaches are most effective in encouraging urban consumers to choose greener delivery options—and which are less impactful—offering valuable insights for cities designing engagement and awareness-raising initiatives.

We are pleased to welcome two expert speakers:

Sanne Wolf (University of Groningen)

Presentation:
“The Art of Doing Nothing: A Field Experiment on Defaults, Information, and Financial Incentives for Sustainable E-commerce Delivery.”
This presentation examines how behavioural interventions influence consumers’ delivery choices in e-commerce. It compares the effects of default options, sustainability information, and financial incentives on encouraging more sustainable delivery behaviour.

Sanne is a PhD student at the University of Groningen. Her research focuses on sustainable last-mile logistics, examining both how consumer choices can be steered toward more sustainable delivery options and how logistics systems can be designed to become more sustainable overall.

Alinda Kokkinou (Breda University of Applied Sciences)
Alinda is Senior Lecturer & Researcher Driving Digital Transformation at the Breda University of Applied Sciences. Her areas of teaching and research span the interaction of processes, people and technology across multiple industries.

Harris Stamatopoulos (University of Uppsala, Sustainability InnoCenter)

Presentation:
"Engaging Communities for Greener Logistics: Lessons from SuCoLo"
This presentation shares key lessons from the SuCoLo project on engaging communities in greener logistics practices. Drawing on recommended approaches from real-world outreach, it highlights what motivates behavioral change, what barriers persist, and how these insights can inform more effective, people-centered logistics solutions.

Harrisis the director of the Sustainability InnoCenter, a non-profit organisation that works at the intersection of sustainability, innovation, and solution creation. Harris is also an Innovation & Strategic Collaboration manager at the University of Uppsala in Sweden, supporting the university leadership on strategic issues related to academia's interaction with the community.
