It’s interconnected and not bipolar!
– Connecting rural and urban areas in regional development
One of the most important paradigms of current spatial planning and regional development is to link rural and urban areas functionally. But how exactly is this being put into practice at the regional level? To explore this question, external experts will present regional projects and initiatives in this session and share their experiences in a subsequent discussion with participants:
• Why rural and urban challenges must be understood together
• Concrete, hands-on examples of rural–urban collaboration that have been tried and tested
• Practical tools and instruments that can be adapted to your own region
• How to work with urbanisation rather than against it
• How to build long-term value, resilience, and survival strategies for our hubs

Before the agenda, there’s the coffee - and that’s where the magic happens !
Digital Coffee Gathering
We will start the session with a coffee together and a quick round of check-ins before we begin 09:00 CET. These get-togethers provide a platform for informal dialogues, updates, asking questions, and building trust and stronger partnerships.
