How can storytelling strengthen local identity and inspire pride in coastal and rural areas?

Join us as AUD (Saint-Omer) and Lysekil Municipality share insights from their initiatives “Two Voices” and “Pride in Place.”.

Both projects explore creative ways of engaging local communities and connecting people to their surroundings - whether through guided tours that bring together diverse perspectives on heritage, or by collecting stories and voices that shape a shared vision for the future.

Come along to get inspired by two different yet complementary approaches to storytelling as a tool for community development and place-making.

Two voices

AUD (Saint-Omer)

The "Two Voices" tours have been organised by the Pays de Saint-Omer Urban Planning, Development and Heritage Agency since 2021, during key events such as European Heritage Days, but also throughout the year for the general public. The aim of these tours is to bring together two different approaches to the heritage of the Pays de Saint-Omer in a single visit, inviting two professionals to share their knowledge with residents and visitors. The Agency has organised walking, cycling and boat tours, bringing together historians, landscapers, architects, ecologists and tour guides to explore the area. Anchored in a multi-helix developement, this project thus strengthens stakeholder cooperation and promotes the richness of the built and landscape heritage through a broader and complementary approach

Lysekil

Lysekil Municipality

The project "Pride in Place" aims to create a compelling narrative about Lysekil and foster a broadly anchored understanding of the town’s identity and future potential. We achieve this by collecting stories, experiences, and insights from various target groups -such as residents, business owners, associations, and politicians - through interviews, surveys, and workshops. Based on this material, we develop a shared vision of Lysekil to support the development and promotion of the municipality and its local stakeholders. We will show you some of the methods that we used in the first fase to collect the data.

Digital coffee

Before the agenda, there’s the coffee - and that’s where the magic happens !

Digital Coffee Gathering

We will start the session with a coffee together and a quick round of check-ins before we begin 09:00 CET. These get-togethers provide a platform for informal dialogues, updates, asking questions, and building trust and stronger partnerships.
