A rich and diverse community life is key to making Skagen attractive for settlement
Skagen has a proud tradition of vibrant community life in sports and culture – driven by dedicated volunteers. From time to time, Skagen Education Center supports local associations facing challenges, whether in club development or facility upgrades.
Over the past year, Skagen Education Center has worked closely with the local equestrian school, which is undergoing significant development. Most recently, the club expressed a strong need for new paddocks. Since the equestrian school is located near the dune plantation on land owned by the Danish Nature Agency, any changes require official approval. Skagen Education Center’s role has been to guide the school through this process – particularly in liaising with authorities, local businesses, suppliers, and stakeholders. They provide advice and support to help the equestrian school prepare strong applications to foundations and grant schemes.

Why do we take on tasks like this? We believe that a rich and diverse community life is key to making Skagen attractive for settlement. In a small coastal town facing population decline, initiatives like this, aim to reverse the trend and encourage more families to settle here.
In spring, the equestrian school received substantial foundation support, enabling the construction of new paddocks that meet all safety and welfare standards for both riders and horses. The materials were carefully chosen with sustainability and safety in mind, and the paddocks are now in use.
