CircleBIM Consortium Meeting in Mechelen
Two days of collaboration and practical planning hosted by IGEMO
The CircleBIM consortium gathered in Mechelen, Belgium, on 2–3 December 2025 for an intensive two-day partner meeting hosted by IGEMO. Bringing together teams from all seven North Sea Region countries, the meeting focused on refining implementation tools, strengthening regional cooperation, and advancing digital and circular construction practices across pilots and LCCPs.
The event opened with a welcome from IGEMO and HCU, followed by working sessions on Work Package 1. Partners shared updates on their A1.4 Implementation Templates, presenting practical progress from their respective pilots (including reuse marketplaces, digital inventories, decision tree applications, BIM-based material analyses, and discussions on balancing circular ambitions with affordability). The session also covered the upcoming milestones for information flow management and harmonisation of the A1.3 annexes.
A study visit to the Impact Factory offered an inspiring real-life example of circular business ecosystems, highlighting innovative reuse concepts and collaborative spatial strategies.
The meeting continued with a presentation on the A1.5 monitoring and evaluation framework, where partners discussed KPIs for both pilots and LCCPs, focusing on stakeholder involvement, BIM adoption, digital efficiency, and environmental impact assessment.
On the second day, the consortium turned to Work Package 2, with an interactive workshop on stakeholder engagement, communication formats, and LCCP development. Partners compared regional approaches to maintaining and upscaling their Local Circular Construction Platforms, sharing insights visualised in posters and questionnaires. Additional sessions explored BIM innovation, circular IFC standards, and opportunities for future transnational exchanges.
A presentation from D Studio showcased the ZIN redevelopment project in Brussels, providing inspiration on large-scale circular construction and design in practice.
The meeting concluded with sessions on transnational cooperation planning, development of the seven Regional Action Plans, and key project management updates, followed by agreement on next steps leading up to the consortium meeting in Arvika in April 2026.
Set in the historic city of Mechelen, the December meeting marked another important step in strengthening the CircleBIM framework and supporting partners in collaboratively shaping a more circular, digital, and resource-efficient construction sector.
