Exploring the link between research, education, and practice for circular construction.
On 27 February 2026, the CircleBIM project was presented at the Forskning i Virkeligheden 2026 conference hosted by Professionshøjskolen UCN in Aalborg, Denmark. The event focused on the role of applied research in society and highlighted how collaboration between academia, education, and professional practice can generate real impact.
During the session dedicated to digitalisation and sustainable decision-making in construction, Dorthe Holmberg introduced the CircleBIM project and its approach to connecting research, teaching, and industry collaboration. The presentation showed how digital tools such as Building Information Management (BIM) can help operationalize circular economy principles and support the transition toward more sustainable construction processes.
The conference brought together researchers, educators, students, and external partners from different sectors to share experiences on how knowledge can be transformed into practice. Discussions throughout the day emphasized that meaningful change happens at the intersection of research, education, and real-world application, a space in which CircleBIM actively contributes through its international cooperation and pilot activities.
UCN and all participants are thanked for the inspiring exchanges and valuable perspectives shared during the event.
