Showcasing circularity, digital innovation, and cross-project collaboration in Caen
On 5 November 2025, delegates from the Interreg North Sea Programme visited BUILDERS École d’Ingénieurs in Caen for a presentation of the CircleBIM project and a guided tour of the BUILDERS Living Lab pilot site. The visit took place alongside the 8th Monitoring Committee meeting, hosted in the region, and offered an opportunity to explore BUILDERS’ active role in several North Sea projects.
During the tour, representatives from BUILDERS introduced the Living Lab facilities and outlined how the school contributes to the CircleBIM project through research on soil as a circular building material and the integration of digital tools into engineering education and applied research. The CircleBIM presentation formed part of a broader showcase of BUILDERS’ engagement in the programme’s innovation ecosystem.
In addition to CircleBIM, the delegation learned about three other North Sea projects in which BUILDERS is involved — FIER, WaterWarmth, and OASIS — illustrating the school’s strong commitment to ecological, digital, and engineering-driven transitions. The visit highlighted how project outcomes are embedded in the school’s curriculum, supporting the next generation of engineers in acquiring skills for sustainable construction.
The CircleBIM partners thank the Interreg North Sea delegation and BUILDERS colleagues for an inspiring exchange and for offering a valuable platform to present the project’s objectives and early developments.
