Successful Local Stakeholder Workshop: DECISO x KARMA at the Pop-Up Circular Hub
On 6 February 2025, the Pop-Up Circular Hub in Hamburg’s JUPITER venue hosted the DECISO x KARMA Local Stakeholder Workshop on Circular Construction, bringing together a diverse group of experts from architecture, engineering, politics, and city administration.
Organised at Fab City Hamburg, the event explored how circular economy principles and cost-efficiency can go hand in hand in the building sector. The workshop was introduced by Dr. Uta Mense (Building Competence Centre Hamburg), who highlighted the importance of local collaborations for sustainable urban development.
The programme featured presentations of the DECISO and KARMA projects, followed by an interactive, hands-on session focusing on the potential reuse of Klöpperhaus, a historic 1915 building in Hamburg’s city centre. Participants split into two groups, one of practical actors and one of planning experts, to develop concepts for reusing the building within a circular economy framework. Discussions included funding strategies, operational models, and approaches to involve local stakeholders.
The lively exchanges revealed complementary perspectives between disciplines and demonstrated the value of cross-sector dialogue. The workshop also offered an opportunity for CircleBIM to strengthen ties with local initiatives and stakeholders engaged in sustainable construction practices.
By fostering new connections and generating fresh ideas for circular urban development, the event marked a productive step towards more resource-efficient and collaborative building practices in Hamburg and the wider region.
