Within the CircleBIM project, a new whitepaper published by Embuild Vlaanderen presents how BIM and circular construction can be combined to support more sustainable and data-driven building processes in Flanders.

A new whitepaper developed within the CircleBIM project explores how Building Information Management (BIM) and circular construction can be combined to support more sustainable and efficient building processes in Flanders.

The publication, prepared by Embuild Vlaanderen in the framework of CircleBIM, brings together two topics that are often treated separately. By linking BIM with circularity, the report shows how digital information management can help make circular construction more concrete, scalable, and applicable throughout the entire lifecycle of a building.

The whitepaper first explains the fundamentals of BIM, including the BIM process, interoperability, and the relevant reference frameworks used in Flanders. It then provides an overview of the circular construction landscape, presenting key initiatives, tools, and pilot projects currently shaping the transition towards a circular building sector. Finally, the document highlights ongoing research and practical examples where BIM is already being used to support circular design, renovation, and material reuse.

This whitepaper contributes to the project’s objective of strengthening regional innovation ecosystems and supporting public authorities, researchers, and industry stakeholders in adopting digital tools for circular construction.

The document is available (in Dutch) for download via the Embuild Vlaanderen website.
